It all started at the Big Apple record shop in Croydon, the FWD>> club night at Plastic People and the pirate broadcasts of Rinse FM. Half-time rhythms, sparse drums and sub-bass lines you feel in your chest more than hear with your ears. Little melody, lots of atmosphere: this is music made for a proper sound system, not for earbuds. The mantra was “Meditate on bass weight”.
